At Pearce Williams Summer Camp & Retreat Facility, our aim is to provide the best summer camp experience for your child. Pearce Williams strives to do this in a non-competitive, caring way, allowing your child to discover the world around them, while promoting success, self-confidence and self-esteem in a safe, secure and stimulating environment, while living and growing within our Christian community.

The emphasis is always on participation, effort and attitude! We feel that camp is a unique place where every child can be a winner. We provide campers with the opportunity to become part of a family, where they can take healthy risks, get rewarded for successes and develop self-esteem and life skills. In the meantime they will learn about independence, interdependence, tolerance, responsibility, friendship and loyalty.

It is at summer camp that they learn to take risks, learn to resolve conflicts in a natural manner, learn to appreciate and protect our environment, learn to stay healthy, learn to be responsible for their personal belongings, and learn to have fun with unabashed enthusiasm.

Every Child Deserves a Week at Camp

Because of camp...the staff experience

Matt Honsberger

This summer will be something magical…

At the end of the summer at Pearce Williams we ask our staff to finish the following sentence: “Because of camp I…” It was very interesting to see our staff’s responses to this simple statement.

Here are some of the Because Of Camp answers from Pearce Williams Staff:

Copy of Staff Posters 2018 (1).png
  1. Because of camp I am able to be 100% me.

  2. Because of camp I have learned to appreciate the small things more than ever before.

  3. Because of camp I have been inspired to appreciate each moment individually and each person differently.

  4. Because of camp… I have confidence, strength and courage. I am willing to challenge myself and accept failure knowing I will one day succeed. I have created lifelong friendships with the people that inspire me the most.

  5. Because of camp I am the person I am today and will forever be grateful, I have a place to call home and I have the best job in the world.

  6. Because of camp I am able to get in front of any crowd and feel relaxed. I have been able to grow in confidence, and can firmly say that I know what I want to do with the rest of my life.

  7. Because of camp I know that I want to spend the rest of my life working with kids!

  8. Because of camp I believe in the youth of our generation.

  9. Because of camp I can be who I want to be not who other people want me to be.

  10. Because of camp I have realized the who God wants me to be, it has shown me my strengths and weaknesses, my inside and out. I have learned to keep the friends I have made at camp very close for they have my back and I have theirs and what it truly means to work as a team. I have learned how to truly dare greatly!

  11. Because of camp I am not afraid to be myself and to dare greatly

  12. Because of camp, I am able to be completely myself without being judged, I am able to be inspired by every single camper that comes to camp, I am able to appreciate every moment of life because camp had shown me just how special they are.

  13. Because of camp I have grown so much and will continue to grow as a person.

  14. Because of camp I have confidence and direction for the rest of my life.

  15. Because of camp I got the opportunity to go out of my comfort zone and make new friends and explore new places.

  16. Because of camp I have been able to see a noticeable change in myself (for the better) and have been able to make friends that will last a very long time. I also find myself very relaxed, a feeling which is not usually present in my life.

  17. Because of camp I feel like Lora is just a name and behind it is the person I have constructed to fit into society and their expectations of me where as Bam Bam is my identity, it is who I want myself to be.

  18. Because of camp I get to surround myself with people, staff and campers alike, that inspire me every single day. These people have also allowed me to discover myself, and to grow into the best me I can be.

  19. Because of camp I will be changed for the better.

Camp is a powerful place for our campers, but also a powerful place for our young staff to grow and become their true selves.

Get ready for a summer of change, growth and the best summer job you will ever have.

Fire Safety Renovations - Part 2!

Matt Honsberger

Your donations…hard at work!

October has been a month of HUGE progress and change at camp. Thanks to our donors and supporting organizations, we have begun a large portion of the work on all aspects of our fire safety upgrades.

In the past 5 weeks, we have seen…

  • A new hood, fire suppression system and ovens at Pearce Hall (you can almost smell Mama Bear’s baking from here!)

  • Metal doors installed at the East Camp portables, in the dorms and in some of the cabins (thanks to the volunteers who came out for door day!)

  • New wiring for exit signs, smoke detectors, fire alarms and smoke detectors (our installer Jeremy is a great guy!)

  • Insulating the dorm roof and adding fire separation in between the two levels (Flash’s new superhero name is Capt. Dusty!)

  • Moving the offices, tearing up the carpets and boxing off the door to what will now be Joe’s office (Check out the old wall paper in what used to be the medic station!)

These are your donations at work. You are responsible for our growth, making camp even more safe, and for Pearce Williams continuing on for generations to come.

November is shaping up to be just as busy. We’ve got some big announcements coming up about more work on site, so stay tuned!

Camper and Staff Recognition Program

Matt Honsberger

A way for us to recognize those who ARE part of our extraordinary world

Karl and his 28(!) year plaque!

Karl and his 28(!) year plaque!

Pearce Williams has a long and rich history. As the years go on, we're blessed to have 2nd, 3rd and even 4th generation campers join us year after year as campers, staff and volunteers.

To celebrate their commitment, we use tree cookies and plaques!

Every year someone returns to attend a week of camp or commits to at least 5 days of service, it counts towards their "years at camp".

Starting at 2 years, people receive one tree-cookie per year. Every 5 years, you get a BIG cookie. At 10 years, we will cut out your name, paint it, and mount your tree cookies to a board (from the old barn while the supplies remain!)

Missed out on the summer of 2018 and want your cookies?

Our 2018 staff plaque recipients

Our 2018 staff plaque recipients

We started this program in the summer of 2018 and with almost 1000 tree cookies cut and branded, we're off to a great start!

However, if you're an alumnus who wants to catch up with your tree cookies and plaque there are two ways that you can join the program:

1) Serve 5 days volunteering or working and we will catch you up on whatever year you are on.

2) Purchase the items as part of our fire upgrades fundraiser. See below.

Purchasing Names, Boards and Tree Cookies

If you are not able to volunteer, work or attend 5 days, or lost your tree cookies, you may purchase tree cookies and plaques at the following prices:

Individual tree cookies based on your years attending/serving: $10 each

Mounting tree cookies onto a board: $50
(boards will be barn boards from the original barns while supplies last)

Custom-cut Pearce Williams "Nametag": $50

Board and Nametag Combo: $80

The Slums Built a Wall!

Melody Walker

The slums made a wall at immersive night!

You'll alwaysbe my hero!.png

Last night youth camp held our final immersive night of 2018. Many things happened and many rules were changed. Culture groups were no longer allowed to steal unless they wanted a fine of at least a quarter f their resources. Another culture group was added known as the refugee's. Refugee'shave no building and no resources. They however know where the drinking water is but another culture group could get there before them. We had four refugee's who were later taken into the Thailand culture. The slum's formed a wall of protection and only made trades when at their wall. However the wall was destroyed by a slum's member later into the night. Past campers were elder's and were stuck at their culture the whole night.

Blue and Yellow competition continue's to heat up. Blue being slightly in the lead. Today a series of water events and tasks will begin in which they can score points. Battlestilts champion round is also today with many more fun things in store. Lastly our annual barn festival is tonight in which everyone will dress nicely.

Check tomorrow to see how our last day of camp goes.

Cup Stacking!!

Melody Walker

Today we had a volunteer run session of cup stacking!

Cup Stacking.png

Today we introduced a new session run by one of our volunteers, named cup stacking. The winner of the fastest time received a tinfoil cup to congratulating them on their victory. We continued with CYOA's today, hosting 2 sessions worth. This is due to a change in our schedule for tomorrow.

Tonight we have immersive night! However this is not your regular immersive night for we have changed it to make it more interesting to older campers who have done it several times. Rumor has it that another culture group is joining Pearce Williams. As well there is now a fine for stealing. This is exciting stuff. Photos will be posted tomorrow.

Lastly for our color competition today we played a game of jeopardy. The categories were out of this world, Nature, Ologies and Pearce Williams history. Blue team was extremely victorious knowing the most random of facts. However yellow is still not far behind.

Check back tomorrow for those immersive pictures.
