At Pearce Williams Christian Centre Summer Camp & Retreat Facility, our aim is to provide the best summer camp experience for your child.  Pearce Williams strives to do this in a non-competitive, caring way, allowing your child to discover the world around them, while promoting success, self-confidence and self-esteem in a safe, secure and stimulating environment, while living and growing within our Christian community.

The emphasis is always on participation, effort and attitude!  We feel that camp is a unique place where every child can be a winner.  We provide campers with the opportunity to become part of a family, where they can take healthy risks, get rewarded for successes and develop self-esteem and life skills.  In the meantime they will learn about independence, interdependence, tolerance, responsibility, friendship and loyalty.

It is at summer camp that they learn to take risks, learn to resolve conflicts in a natural manner, learn to appreciate and protect our environment, learn to stay healthy, learn to be responsible for their personal belongings, and learn to have fun with unabashed enthusiasm.

Overall it was a great summer program wise.  Our new model which allowed campers to choose their own sessions all day long went over very well with both campers and staff.  We did not have as many campers acting out because of boredom – if they weren’t interested in a session anymore, they were allowed to switch!  Campers were also able to create their own sessions, which is something they really enjoyed!  To improve this model for next year, we need to focus on teaching staff how to sell their sessions.  Our staff team created many amazing moments for our campers this summer and introduced many children to God’s message of love and acceptance.

Pearce Williams had a few different issues this summer with facility items, highlighted by being hit with a direct lightning strike on August 10, 2015 – this broke our phone system, 3 computers, 2 printers and some other electronic equipment.  Damage at this point is pegged at around $3500.  The fire inspector has also mandated that we install a fire suppression system in the hood of the main dining hall kitchen – estimated costs are $3500 and work will be completed by Thanksgiving.  Winterizing of Cabin A, adding 40 beds to our year round use number, will be completed by November 1, 2015.  New metal roofs are also going on Cabins A, B and C thanks in part to a $4000 grant from the United Church National Office. We are also dealing with some septic bed issues at Pearce Hall as roots had grown into the weeping bed distribution tiles.  New sidewalks were installed in the spring using grant money from the Federal Office of Accessibility.

The new buildings were put to great use this summer.  The Barn housed our Maker Space (aka: Arts & Crafts), the covered porch of the barn housed our 2 new Carpet Ball tables – a new game that campers and staff loved.  Hume’s Hall was used for many chapels, rainy day program and hot day programs – as the air conditioning was a great asset to help the campers cool down.

Pearce Williams appreciates the donations of crafts supplies from many of our presbytery churches.  We also appreciate the ongoing financial support from Presbytery and from individual churches and UCW groups.  We as that churches and individuals keep Pearce Williams in mind for monetary donations as the end of the year approaches.

If you have any questions, want a member of our staff to speak at your church or do children’s time, or just want to talk about camping and the church connection – please call our office – 519-764-2317.  If you want to visit Pearce Williams for a hike, reading, relaxing or cloud gazing – please come out anytime.
